Psoriasis and Atrial Fibrillation Linked?

Psoriasis and Afib

Inflammation contributes to the pathogenesis of psoriasis as well as atrial fibrillation. The impact of psoriasis and its association with new–onset atrial fibrillation was assessed in hypertensive patients with left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH).  Psoriasis has a similar prevalence in hypertensive patients as in the general population.  Psoriasis independently predicted new–onset atrial fibrillation despite lower age and electrocardiographic LVH in psoriasis patients than in patients without psoriasis.
